| The School of Arts
and Humanities produces three to four main stage productions
every season in the
University Theatre. Plays are chosen from a wide
variety of genres, including classics, modern American
drama, musicals, and new works. Past seasons have included
performances of Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's
Dream including a premiere of new music by composer-in-residence
Robert X. Rodríguez, Euripides' Bakkhai, Ibsen's Hedda
Gabler, Chekov's The Seagull, the Fantasticks, Personals,
The Foreigner, I Hate Hamlet, Fuddy
Meers, John Guare's House
of Blue Leaves and a new adaptation of Anthony Burgess'
A Clockwork
Orange, and original performances and videos created
by the Theatre Ensemble Production class.
Productions are directed by faculty of the School and
guest directors from local area theatres.
Auditions are held at the beginning of every long
semester, and productions are primarily cast from students
enrolled at the University. Additional lectures and
presentations about productions are often scheduled
to enhance the students' understanding of the works
and the process of production.
In addition to main stage productions, students are
encouraged to produce and direct in other performance
spaces as part of Senior Honors Projects and Independent
Studies. Past performances have included David Ives'
All in the Timing, a student production of Hamlet and
original works by graduate students. Students' productions
range from fully staged performances to Reader's Theatre.
Students who wish to produce should contact the Associate
Dean for the Arts for more information. All student
productions must have a faculty sponsor who oversees
the work.
