The School of Arts and Humanities offers several courses in the area of Music History. At the lower level, students can enroll in Understanding Music (MUSI 1306) for a basic introduction or Music in Western Civilization (MUSI 2322). Both of these courses fulfill the Texas legislative requirements for fine arts. At a more advanced level, students can enroll in Music in Historical Context (MUSI 3322), which often involves a particular genre or style. Past topics have included Western Musical History, Jazz History and the History of Song.
