| To
minor in the Arts and Humanities, students must take
a minimum of 18 hours for the minor, twelve of which
must be upper-division hours. Core courses offered
by the school may count as lower-division hours toward
the minor. Students may choose to minor in any of the
following fields of study:

Minor in
Music Studies (18 hours)
Like other minors, the Music Minor
is six hours of lower division courses plus twelve of
upper division, divided between music history, theory
and performance, including ensembles. A student who
takes MUSI 1306 Understanding Music or MUSI 2322 Music
in Western Civilization to fulfill the Core arts requirement
already has three of the lower division hours. Fall
of 2005 will be the first time that the other lower
level requirement, MUSI 2328 Music Theory, will be offered.
Participation in UTD’s Orchestra, Jazz Band, Chamber
Singers or Advanced Ensemble can count for six hours
of upper division credit. Alternatively, a student may
choose to pursue upper division study in voice or an
instrument (guitar or piano). To fill out the studies,
a variety of music history (ex. MUSI 3322 History of
the Guitar, History of Song) and music theory (ex. MUSI
3342 Creating Music, MUSI 3389 Digital Music courses
make up the additional coursework at the upper level.
Minor in
Gender Studies (18 hours)
The Gender Studies minor is 18 semester hours. The
courses consist of GST 3300, two other Gender Studies
core courses, and nine hours of approved Gender Studies
electives.
Minor in
Spanish/Hispanic Area Studies (18 hours)
Six semester hours of college-level Spanish and
at least six semester hours in Social Science courses
with a specific focus on Spain and/or Latin America,
and six hours of such courses in Arts and Humanities.
