The professional study of works of contemporary and past arts is a real strength of the interdisciplinary arts and humanities program at UTD. With world class scholars in The Italian Renaissance (Professor Stott) and Modern Art (Professor Brettell), with access to the great public and private collections of the Dallas-Fort Worth Area, with a program of visiting scholars and museum professionals, and with a collegial relationship with our colleagues in painting, photography, sculpture, technology, literary studies, and history, UTD offers undergraduate and graduate students the chance to "dip into" art history or to design a sophisticated program of study, essentially unduplicatable elsewhere. We are particularly strong in the history and theory of museums, in the history of taste and collecting, and in modern art studies.
