German guitarist Karoline Kumst began winning guitar competitions when she was only 13.  She has won 1st prize at the “Roland-Zimmer-Wettbewerb” (2000, 2002 and 2004), the “International Anna-Amalia-Gitarrenwettbewerb” (2001), the “Bundeswettbewerb Jugend musiziert” (2003) and the Heinrich-Albert-Guitar Competition (2005).  Kumst has participated in master classes with Leo Brouwer, Aniello Desiderio, Carlo Marchione, Thomas Müller-Pering, Gerhard Reichenbach, Sdrjan Tošie, Michael Tröster and other noted guitarists.

She worked for the Ministry of Culture in Thüringen, Germany, in 2004 and 2005.  A writer at the Starnberger Merkur (Germany) claimed she “lifted her guitar in meditative spheres with a gentle poetry of sounds. In her poetical performance she seemed to be one with her instrument. With a constant and concentrated clearness she reached full-blooded, Spanish expression.”
