| The program is entirely comprised of music by British composers.
The ensembles will be accompanied by a guest chamber orchestra
and staff accompanist Michael McVay on keyboard.
The two vocal ensembles will perform together God is Gone Up, and Let Us Now Praise Famous Men by 20th Century composer Gerald Finzi. The UTD Chamber Singers, directed by Kathryn Evans, will perform Six Poems by Robert Bridges, also by Gerald Finzi. The UTD Community Chorale, directed by Hoyt Neal, will perform Te Deum and Jubilate in D Major, which Henry Purcell composed for Saint Cecilia’s Day in 1694 and have been recognized as two of his greatest compositions. The concert will also include You Are the New Day by John David and Can’t Buy Me Love by the Beatles.
The UTD Community Chorale…
The UTD Community Chorale, the 40-50-member voice chorale, which combines students with members of the community, performs in the Fall and Spring Arts Festivals every semester. The purpose of the Chorale is to help students and community members enjoy and appreciate choral singing. Singers will benefit by improving their singing technique and the accomplishment of musical goals (such as score reading skills and music theory knowledge). The Chorale is open to all singers who are interested in singing challenging music in a wide variety of styles. Over the past three semesters the Chorale has given performances of composers ranging from Orlando di Lasso, Mozart, Purcell, and Antonio Vivaldi to Benjamin Britton, Aaron Copland, and John Rutter.

The UTD Chamber Singers was formed in 1994 as a performing ensemble
of 20-24 singers. The repertoire for the
ensemble is selected from a broad range
of chamber vocal literature, including both
sacred and secular music spanning the Renaissance
to the contemporary periods of music history
and modern jazz arrangements. The ensemble
performs regularly on campus, including
performances at the Renaissance Faire, the
Annual Holiday Sing during the Fall Semester,
and in concert as a Jazz Singers Ensemble
in the Spring Semester. The UTD Chamber
Singers collaborates with many other ensembles
on campus, including the Jazz Ensemble,
Guitar Ensemble and Dance Ensemble. They
also perform on the Winter and Spring Arts
Festivals every semester. In the Spring,
the Chamber Singers join the UTD Chorale
for a choral concert of large works with
orchestra.
Past concerts have included “A Tribute
to the Manhattan Transfer,” “All
Mozart Concert,” “Swing Thing,”
“Birds, Beasts and Bugs,” “A
Victorian Christmas” and “A
Celebration of Monteverdi.”
Students must audition and be accepted in
order to enroll in Chamber Singers. Auditions
are arranged in the Spring for new students
and before every long semester during the
registration periods.
