of Arts and Humanities. She also teaches
vocal and choral music, and directs the
UTD Chamber Singers. She was Arts Coordinator
for the School of Arts and Humanities from
1995 to 1998, and Assistant Dean from 1998
to 1999. She is an accomplished recitalist

Switzerland, the Czech Republic and Mexico.
Enric Madriguera is Director

Madriguera, Music for Two Guitars"
with his wife Sabine are released on the
Encore Gold Label.
About Ernesto Cordero (b. 1946)
Composer and guitarist Ernesto Cordero (born
in 1946 in New York and raised in Puerto
Rico) has composed a large, rich catalogue
where he has embraced the music of the Caribbean
and used its Afro-Hispanic flavor as a basis
for his own language. He has written six
concertos (three for guitar, one for violin/mandolin,
one for flute-piccolo and one for the Puerto
Rican cuatro), a variety of chamber works
in which the guitar appears in diverse ensembles
and numerous guitar solos, some of which
have become standards. He has received important
awards for composition, and his music is
performed and recorded worldwide by the
finest artists. Of Cordero’s compositions,
the New York Times review said, “...like
Mr. Cordero’s performances, they projected
a healthy combination of skill, sensitive
invention and sound musical effect.”
In addition to his activities as composer,
performer and teacher, Ernesto Cordero,
was music director from 1980 to 1997 of
the International Guitar Festival of Puerto
Rico. He is in demand throughout the world
as a distinguished participant in leading
competitions and festivals. He was a distinguished
guest at UTD in Spring 2003 in a concert
with Evans and Madriguera.
About John Duarte (b. 1919)
John Duarte has composed
over 130 works for the guitar and lute.
Most of Duarte’s compositions have
been published, and 57 have been commercially
recorded by 58 artists and ensembles in
24 countries. Educated in Manchester, Duarte
worked as a professional Chemist until 1969,
and then abandoned chemistry in favor of
a full-time music career. He studied music
formally with Terence Usher, but has been
predominantly self-instructed.
In addition to his success as a composer,
Duarte is an accomplished musician, playing
trumpet and double-bass as well as guitar.
Duarte also writes regularly, contributing
to such publications as Soundboard, Gramophone,
Music Teacher, Classical Guitar, Music in
Education, Guitar Review, Guitar International,
Music & Musicians, Records and Recording,
and Performance; as well as writing numerous
concert-program notes and about 250 liner
notes for various recordings including an
annotation to the reissue of Andres Segovia’s
recordings of 1927-1939 for which Duarte
received a Grammy Award.
Still active as a composer, teacher and
lecturer, he visited U.T. Dallas in October
of 2001, where he spoke about his life and
experiences after a concert of his music
featuring Madriguera and Evans.
