| The Robert
Plant Armstrong Fellowship
The privately endowed Armstrong
Fellowship Program in the School of Arts and Humanities
at UTD permits the graduate program to award a few modest
fellowships each academic year. In contrast to teaching
assistantships, which involve part-time work for the
school and are based solely on students’ academic
record, these awards are based on financial need as
well as academic merit. Thus, applicants must provide
the fellowship committee information on their incomes
as well as estimated expenses.
While the awards are direct
payments to recipients, the school requires Armstrong
fellows to study full time and expects that they use
the grants toward university tuition. Indeed, most of
the grants would qualify recipients for in-state tuition,
should they not otherwise qualify for it. Students may
hold teaching assistantships and Armstrong grants simultaneously.
The application
form for the next academic year is due in the Arts
and Humanities Office on March 19th. Although
a university-wide scholarship committee must endorse
the school’s nominations for awards, that process
should allow the Associate Dean for Graduate Studies
in Arts and Humanities to inform recipients in late
April.
Students interested in applying
for this grant should print and fill out the application
form and turn it into the Arts and Humanities office,
located on the fourth floor of the Jonsson building.
