Checkpoint DreamyourtopiaThis week...
January 8, 7:30 p.m. - Centraltrak Artist Dadara talks at the Dallas Museum of Art

Amsterdam artist in residence at Centraltrak, Dadara will give a talk on “Checkpoint Dreamyourtopia,” a project built and designed for the Burning Man Event, 2008.  “Checkpoint Dreamyourtopia” will be re-erected at Centraltrak Saturday January 10, 2009

at Centraltrak - 800 Exposition Ave, Dallas
January 10, 5 - 10 p.m. - Event: Checkpoint Dreamyourtopia
Come realize your dreams in an ersatz state at Centraltrak. Be ready to cross borders, to work your way through the checkpoint, in order to enter your dreams. Doors close at 9 p.m.

STAYBITE: MODES OF OPERATION
Opening Reception: Friday, January 23, 6:30-9 p.m., Visual Arts Building
Curated by artist Evelyn Serrano and writer Karla Diaz. The exhibition brings together a group of Southern California and Tijuana-based artists, art collectives and their accomplices whose practices enact questions and proposals about public space, personal agency, civic engagement, and models of action.

Tribute to Texas Tenors
January 30 & 31, 8 p.m., Conference Center
The School of Arts & Humanities and the City of Richardson join forces to present a high-quality two-day jazz festival, centered on the historical elements of jazz in the Dallas area. 
UPDATE: David Newman will not be performing. James "Red" Holloway will now be headlining Saturday's concert.

  • The Woody Herman Orchestra, directed by Frank Tiberi, headlines the Friday night concert. Local favorite, the Texas Instruments Jazz Band, directed by Paul Westbrook, entertains the audience with a pre-show concert at 7:30.
  • Saturday night features young local Texas tenor saxophonist Quamon Fowler opening for James "Red" Holloway.

All events are FREE to UTD students with ID, presented to the box office the night of the event.
