Texas Guitar Competition

 

7th Annual, March 6-8, 2008

We have a NEW Format and location this year!

Location: UT Dallas Conference Center

This unique Texas competition, designed to showcase outstanding classical guitar students, will award $6,000 in cash prizes to the winners. Over the three-day event, students can compete and attend master classes and concerts by internationally recognized guitarists.

Prize Money: 1st-$3000, 2nd-$2000, 3rd-$1000

Thursday - March 6

1:00 - 5:00 p.m. - Preliminaries (no public admission)

The guitar concert featuring Marco Sartor IS POSTPONED TO SATURDAY AT 4PM in the UT Dallas Conference Center.

7:15 p.m. - Pre-Concert Music by UT Dallas Guitar Ensembles
8:00 p.m. - Laureate Concert by Marco Sartor and announcement of Finalists.
Sartor has won top prizes in more than 10 competitions in North and South America, including 1st prize in our 2006 Texas Guitar Competition. He has performed at concerts and festivals, conducted master classes and appeared in radio and television broadcasts throughout the US, Mexico, Spain, Argentina and Uruguay.($15 admission)

Friday - March 7

7:15 p.m. - Pre-Concert Music by Collin College One O'clock Ensemble
8:00 p.m. - Top 4 Finalists Compete
(free admission)
Past finalists have come from countries such as Uruguay, Brazil, Finland, Nicaragua, France and Australia.

The Finalists of the Texas Guitar Competition are Scott Borg, Silviu Ciulei, Nemanja Ostojic and Mircea Gogoncea.

Saturday - March 8

7:15 p.m. - Pre-Concert Music by Bella Corda Guitar Ensemble from Austin, TX.
8:00 p.m. - Concert by Michael Chapdelaine and announcement of winners.
Chapdelaine is the only guitarist ever to win 1st prize in the world’s top competitions in both the classical and fingerstyle genres. A critic for Acoustic Guitar Magazine wrote “...I have seldom heard a more beautiful album... Chapdelaine’s beautiful tone is the nearest to Segovia’s that I can recall.” His eleven albums feature songs ranging from Bach to the Beatles. ($20 admission)
