The university requires full-time teaching assistants (TAs) to complete a nine-hour course load each semester and to work twenty hours a week. Full-time TAships carry in-state tuition and pay a salary of $1061 per month. Usually a TAship qualifies a student for a Graduate Student Scholarship(GSS) covering tuition, fees, and medical benefits for ten semesters. The program has a limited number of summer appointments (approximately one-third the number for the regular academic year), and only those students offered appointments during the academic year are eligible for summer positions. Normally M.A. students awarded TAships are eligible for support through four semesters of graduate study, and Ph.D. candidates remain eligible through an additional eleven semesters, provided they do not exceed 99 hours of doctoral credit. Please note that the GSS is only available for ten semesters, therefore, it is possible to hold a TAship without receiving the GSS if the TA is over the ten semesters of eligibility.
