How many hours are needed to graduate with a Masters of Arts (M.A.) Degree?

How many hours are needed to graduate with a Masters of Arts in Teaching (M.A.T.) Degree?

How many hours are needed to graduate with a Ph.D.?
      A minimum of 60 hours are required to graduate with a Ph.D. 

How much flexibility do students have as far as choosing an area to specialize in?
      All degrees are given under the rubric of Humanities.  However, individuals can concentrate in the areas of Aesthetic Studies (which covers visual art, theatre, etc.), History of Ideas (which covers history, philosophy, etc.), or Literary Studies (which also includes linguistics).  Each student is responsible for creating their own individual program based on their goals.

What is required for a portfolio?
      A portfolio can either be a scholarly one (consisting of 2 papers generated in graduate courses) or a creative one (a body of work, along with a critical essay reflecting on the work).

What are the acceptance requirements?
      To be accepted into the Arts and Humanities Graduate Studies Program, prospective students must have a 3.3 GPA, have 3 letters of recommendation, a personal statement (how the degree will help you achieve your intellectual and personal goals), and transcripts.

What is the procedure to become a T.A.?
      To become a T.A., students must be full time (9 hours) and fill out the TA Application by February.  Offers will be made in April.

How many hours are required to be a full-time student?
      9 hours are required to be a full-time student.

Where is the Art and Humanities office located?
      The Art and Humanities office is located on the third floor of the Jonsson Academic Center. (campus map)

How do I get to UTD?
UTD is easily accessible by 3 major highways: I 635(LBJ Freeway),US 75 (Central Expressway), and SH 190 (President George Bush Tollway).  There are also bus routes that will take you to the campus.
