The University of Texas at Dallas' third
annual Renaissance Concert was held
in the
University Theatre on campus on Friday,
Oct. 18, and Saturday, Oct. 19, beginning
at 8 p.m. both nights.
The concert featured the UTD Chamber Singers,
directed by Kathryn Evans, Associate Dean
of the School of Arts and Humanities, and
UTDance, the UTD Dance Ensemble, with choreography
by Micki Saba and Michelle Hanlon.
This annual event brought together the works
of medieval composers and contemporary choreography.
The Chamber Singers performed rounds and
canons based on London street cries by Thomas
Ravenscroft and Thomas Cobb as well as madrigals
by William Byrd and Thomas Morley and a
hymn to the Virgin Mary from the Trinity
Manuscript (15th Century). In addition,
the Chamber Singers will perform in conjunction
with the UTDance ensemble in Oh Maria Rogatrix
from the Rostocker Liederbuch (c.1465-1487)
and William Byrd's Lullaby. Also featured
in this performance was Evans, soprano,
and Michelle Hanlon, choreographer, performing
Hildegard Von Bingen's O Spectabilis Viri
and the UTDance ensemble in Celtech, a dance
piece inspired by Celtic influences with
a contemporary favor.
