Love Jack

Lying beside the University Theatre like a discarded plaything of the gods is artist Jim Love’s sculpture simply titled “Jack.” Shaped like the toy for which it is named, the 10 foot metal sculpture was created in 1971 and presented to UTD as a gift from Mrs. Margaret McDermott in 1976.

Jim Love was born in 1927 in Amarillo, Texas and currently resides in Houston. An artist of world renown, Love’s public collections include sculpture at the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Dallas Museum of Art, the Whitney Museum of American Art, and Houston’s Hobby Airport, just to name a few. His numerous solo and group exhibitions have appeared at such venues as the Moody Gallery in Houston, Pillsbury and Peters Fine Art in Dallas, McNay Art Museum in San Antonio and the Janie C. Lee Gallery in Houston.
